For animal shelters and rescues
Ik ben vermist is the free central reporting point for lost and found pets across Belgium. Shelters and rescue centres use it to list found animals in a few minutes, look up chip numbers and show the listings from their region on a screen at reception or on their website. That way owners find their pet sooner.
- Free, no account
- All of Belgium, per municipality

What Ik ben vermist does for you
Every animal that gets home sooner frees up a place in the shelter. These are the tools that help.
-
Report found animals quickly
An animal just came in? List it as found, with a photo and where it was found. Neighbours with a neighbourhood alert are notified straight away and the listing appears on the map.
Report a found animal -
Smart matching
We compare found and missing animals by species, place, date, breed, colour and sex. When there is a strong resemblance, both sides get an email. The same chip number is linked straight away.
-
Look up a chip number
Someone brought in a found animal? Use the chip number to check whether it has already been listed. Then jump to DogID or CatID with the number on your clipboard.

On the shelter list, partners at the top
Finders see the shelters, boarding kennels and vets nearby per municipality, with phone number and distance. Shelters come from OpenStreetMap. Partners appear at the top in their region, with a Partner label.
View the shelter list -
Poster with QR code for reception
Every listing immediately gets an A4 poster with a QR code that keeps working, even if the listing changes later. Put it up at reception or by the kennel.
-
Live screen for the waiting room or reception
Missing and found animals from the area appear one by one on a TV or tablet, with a large QR code to the listing. One link, nothing to install, no cookies.
Set up the screen -
Widget for your website
Show the missing and found animals from your region on your own website. Free, no cookies and always up to date: just copy and paste the code.

Figures for your region
Every quarter a barometer of missing and found animals per province, plus live figures per municipality. Handy for an annual report, a press release or a grant application.

Deceased animal with a chip
Pass on the chip number of a deceased animal discreetly. If the animal was listed with us, we inform the owner personally and gently. None of this is made public.

How to set it up
-
List found animals straight away
The sooner an animal is online, the better the chance its owner sees it. Add a clear photo.
-
Put the screen up at reception
Visitors see the missing animals from the area and scan the QR code.
-
Add the widget to your website
That way the listings from your region sit right next to your own animals for adoption.
-
Check your details on the shelter list
Address or phone number wrong? Correct it in OpenStreetMap or email us.
Become a partner?
Partners appear at the top of the shelter list in their region, with a Partner label, and on our partners page. That way finders reach you sooner.
Frequently asked questions
Does it cost anything?
Listing, the chip check, the screen, the widget and the figures are free. Becoming a partner is a separate arrangement: get in touch to hear the options.
Does the shelter still need to contact the owner via the chip?
Yes. Read the chip and contact the owner via DogID or CatID as usual. A listing on Ik ben vermist comes on top of that: it also reaches owners of animals without a chip or with outdated details.
Who sees our contact details on a listing?
Nobody. Anyone who responds sends a message through a secure form. Your email address stays hidden; you only show a phone number if you choose to.
How do we update our details on the shelter list?
The shelters and boarding kennels on the list come from OpenStreetMap. Update your details there, or email us at info@ikbenvermist.be. We refresh the list every month.
How do we become a partner?
Send us a message using the button on this page. Partners appear at the top of the shelter list in their region and on our partners page.
