Found a deceased animal
Did you find a deceased dog, cat or other animal, or do you work for a service that collects them? You can pass on the chip number here. If the animal is reported with us, we gently contact the owner ourselves. None of this is made public.
What else you can do
-
Notify the municipality or the police zone
They arrange the collection of the animal and usually keep it for a few days, so the owner can say goodbye. Say where the animal is.
-
No chip, but you recognise the animal?
If you recognise the animal from a report nearby, e-mail us at info@ikbenvermist.be. We contact the owner gently. Do not post a public report or a photo.
Frequently asked questions
- Who can read the chip number?
- Every vet and every shelter has a chip reader and helps for free. The municipal collection service or the police zone often reads the chip too.
- What happens to the number I pass on?
- We only compare it with the reports on Ik ben vermist. If there is a match, a team member checks everything and contacts the owner personally and calmly. You never see whether a report exists. The number appears nowhere publicly.
- Should I report it elsewhere too?
- Yes. Look the number up in DogID (dogs) or CatID (cats): the owner is registered there. Also notify the municipality or the police zone; they arrange the collection of the animal.
- I found an animal without a chip. What then?
- Notify the municipality or the police zone. If you recognise the animal from a report nearby, e-mail us at info@ikbenvermist.be. We contact the owner gently.
