For vets

Ik ben vermist is the free central reporting point for lost and found pets across Belgium. For vets there is a live screen for the waiting room, a chip number check, a discreet route for deceased animals and ready-made material for owners who have lost their pet. Everything is free and needs no account.

What Ik ben vermist does for you

Owners who have lost their pet often call the vet first. These tools help you point them in the right direction straight away.

  • Live screen for the waiting room or reception

Missing and found animals from the area appear one by one on a TV or tablet, with a large QR code to the listing. One link, nothing to install, no cookies.

    Set up the screen
  • Look up a chip number

Someone brought in a found animal? Use the chip number to check whether it has already been listed. Then jump to DogID or CatID with the number on your clipboard.

    Look up a chip number
  • Deceased animal with a chip

Pass on the chip number of a deceased animal discreetly. If the animal was listed with us, we inform the owner personally and gently. None of this is made public.

  • Poster and flyers for owners

A client has lost their pet? A listing takes two minutes. They immediately get an A4 poster with QR code, flyers, door-to-door cards for the neighbours and images for social media.

    Post a report
  • QR codes that keep working

Posters, door-to-door cards and the screen use one permanent short link per listing. If the listing changes later, the QR code still leads to the right page.

  • On the temporary shelter list

Anyone who finds an animal sees the shelters, boarding kennels and vets nearby, per municipality. Vets come from OpenStreetMap. Is your practice missing or is something wrong? Let us know.

  • Widget for your website

Show the missing and found animals from your region on your own website. Free, no cookies and always up to date: just copy and paste the code.

  • Guide: moving house with your cat

Cats often run off after a move. Give owners this guide: what to do before, during and after the move, with a flyer for the new neighbours.

    View the guide
  • Neighbourhood alerts

Owners and neighbours get an email or push notification for every new listing within 5, 10 or 25 km. The more people keep an eye out, the sooner an animal is home.

  • An API for your own system

Show the listings from your area in your own website, app or software, with a link to Ik ben vermist. Free, after approval and without personal data: only the type of animal, the municipality, the date and the link.

  2. Keep two links at the front desk

The chip number check and the page for deceased animals. A bookmark is enough.

  3. Point owners the way

Pet missing? Tell them to report it for free on ikbenvermist.be. They get a poster straight away, which you can also put up at the practice.

  4. Add the widget to your website

Visitors to your site then see the listings from the area.

Frequently asked questions

Does it cost our practice anything?

No. The screen, the widget, the chip check and the material are free. Ik ben vermist is funded by advertising and partners, never by owners or vets.

Does Ik ben vermist replace DogID or CatID?

No. Chip registration stays with DogID (dogs) and CatID (cats). Ik ben vermist shows listings of missing and found animals so the neighbourhood can help search. The chip check looks at our listings first and then sends you on to DogID or CatID with the number.

What does the waiting-room screen show?

Only what is already public on the site: photo, name, breed, place and date of the listings nearby, with a QR code. No addresses, no phone numbers and no cookies.

How does our practice get on the shelter list?

The vets on the list come from OpenStreetMap, an open map that anyone can edit. We refresh the data every month. Update your practice there or email us at info@ikbenvermist.be and we will check it.

Someone brings in a deceased animal without a chip. What now?

If someone recognises the animal from a listing nearby, email info@ikbenvermist.be. We will contact the owner gently. Do not post a public listing or a photo.

Also for other organisations

  • Shelters and rescues
