Frequently asked questions
I've found an animal in Ypres. What now?
Make sure the animal is safe and give it some water. Have a vet scan it for a microchip: that way you can often find the owner straight away via DogID or CatID. Also post a free report as a found animal.
May I keep an animal I've found?
A found animal remains the property of its owner. Report it to the council or the police and try to find the owner. If you can't take the animal in, contact the animal shelter in your region.
How does someone prove the animal is theirs?
Ask for photos, the microchip registration or a distinguishing feature that isn't in the report. Arrange to meet in a public place or at a vet.
