New on Ik ben vermist: search together on the map, a search plan and more

You rarely find a missing pet on your own. That is why Ik ben vermist now has new tools that let neighbours, finders and owners search together. Everything is free and works straight away on every report.

Search together on the map

Seen a missing pet? Tap "I saw it" and mark the place and time on the map. The owner gets an e-mail straight away, and every sighting becomes a numbered point on a trail. Searched your street but saw nothing? With "I searched here", other neighbours can see which streets are done.

A search circle: where to look first

Cats are usually found very close to home, dogs travel further. Every report now shows a search circle per species, with practical advice. Owners who find their pet can tell us how far from home it was, so the circles get more precise over time.

Vets and shelters nearby

Every report now lists the nearest vets and animal shelters, with their phone number. Finders know right away where the microchip can be read, and owners can call the right numbers in one go.

A search plan for every day

When your pet goes missing, it is hard to know where to start. Owners now get a plan for the first week: what to do today, tomorrow and the days after. Tick off what is done; on day 2 and 5 we send a short reminder.

Smart matching between missing and found

We automatically compare missing and found pets by species, place, date, breed, colour and sex. When a found pet strongly resembles a missing one nearby, the owner gets an e-mail with a link.

Push notifications for neighbours

Besides the e-mail neighbourhood alert, you can now turn on push notifications: a nudge on your phone or computer for every new report nearby, without an app or e-mail address.

Back home? Share your story

After two and six weeks we ask owners whether their pet is back. With one click the report shows "Back home" and you can tell how you found your pet. These stories give others hope and tips.

For municipalities, vets and the press

Municipalities, vets and shelters can now show the missing pets in their area on their own website with our free widget. The new figures page shows how many pets go missing, when and where. Journalists find press releases and visuals on our press page.
